7:30 - 9:00 AM | Managing the Multi-Generational Workforce Panel & Breakfast

From the GI Generation to the Millennials
Panel Speaker and Classic Frontier Restaurant Green Chile Breakfast Burritos and mouthwatering cinnamon rolls

A special speaker series with Anderson Faculty, Dr. Rob DelCampo and Anderson Alums, Lauren Haggerty, Meredith Jane Haney and Lauren Ashley Knippel.

Join us as we look at best practices on tackling the issue of properly integrating the newest generation – the "Millennials" into the workplace and challenges the unrealistic belief that all needs to happen is for younger generations to be "changed" to conform to workplace norms.

Location

Jackson Student Center
Anderson School of Management
1924 Las Lomas
Albuquerque, NM 87131

Details

For the first time in history, four distinct and very different generations are working together. Generational conflict is one of the best bastions of acceptable discrimination in today's workplace. Each generation has different beliefs, expectations, values, learning styles, and desires. These result in a strong tendency for them to adopt different work habits.

Managing employees of several generations is not an easy task, but it is the reality of the business world today. The creation of a culture and coordinating programs that foster communication and collaboration between all generations present in the workforce will help to alleviate the difficulties managers may encounter. In order to truly create a cohesive workplace, managers must encourage employees to view generational difference as a valuable strength rather than a weakness.

Ray Birmingham Anderson School of Management's Alumni Council is pleased to announce Ray Birmingham, head coach of the Lobo baseball team, as Keynote Speaker for Alumni Weekend in March of 2012. In the four years Coach Birmingham has been with the University of New Mexico he has produced three Mountain West Conference regular season second-place finishes and a MWC tournament championship while posting a record of 129-108. In 2009, he helped bring UNM to a national ranking for the first time since 1985. The 2008, 2009, and 2010 seasons added up to the best three-year span in terms of winning in UNM history.

Renowned as a "coach's coach," particularly for his expert tutelage on the fundamentals of hitting, Birmingham has mentored and spoken at numerous clinics throughout the United States and South America. His work has been published in the American Baseball Coaches Association Journal, and he has worked professionally for the Cleveland Indians, Oakland A's, and Kansas City Royals. He also led the NJCAA all-star team to four wins out of five games over the Chinese All-Stars in Beijing, China in 2004. Despite his national and international victories, Birmingham, a nearly lifelong New Mexico resident, remains most proud of the successes of his New Mexico players. Anderson School of Management is thrilled to welcome him for Alumni Weekend.
