Dr. Bruyere is a Professor of Disability Studies and Director of the Employment and Disability Institute at Cornell University. Her presentation Disability and Employment: Practices in Retention and Inclusion of People with Disabilities will explore the fact that people with disabilities represent 15% of the world’s population, yet are significantly limited in their ability to equitably access employment and its related economic benefits. This represents a tremendous loss of talent to the global labor force, as well as having serious implications for the health, and economic and social well-being of people with disabilities.
Partnered with six employer national associations, Cornell University is conducting extensive research into differences in employer practices in hiring, retaining, and advancing individuals with disabilities and the relationship between these practices and employment outcomes. Dr. Bruyere will present applications from this research, discussing ways in which employer policies and practices can contribute to increasing workforce participation for this under-represented minority group.
The talk is part of the UNM Anderson Business to Business Breakfast Series sponsored by the Anderson School and the generosity of George and Sibilla Boerigter and SoundOff Signal. The lecture series hosts business leaders from across the country to speak on topics of current interest and is offered at no cost to the business community. The public is invited to attend but RSVPs are required. To sign up for the Disability and Employment presentation go to www.mgt.unm.edu/events/B2B or contact Sara Lucero at 505-277-6413.
