The Anderson School of Management Scholarship Committee selected three students to represent Anderson students who received scholarships for 2009-2010. The selected students provide a snap shot of the quality and diversity of students attending educational degree programs at the Anderson School of Management.
I am Lameck "Humble" Lukanga, a son of two African immigrants, who made
immense sacrifices to come to America; a promise land they both felt
would provide opportunities and hope of a better life for their
children. As a kid, I vividly remember all the talks I would have with
my father, he loved stressing the importance of education, and a great
education for his children was his only dream. My father believed that
only through education can a person be truly free, only through an
unwavering desire to learn will the world full of endless possibilities
open up for me. Now as a 23 yr old, MBA student at the Anderson School
of Management, I finally understand what my father meant. I am extremely
proud to be a recipient of the Ambassador Edward Romero Scholarship,
which has enabled me to continue pursuing my father's dream. A simple
dream of a noble man, which has taken me to places he had the foresight
to envision. Upon graduation, I will continue building Royalty Life
Records, an independent recording company, my classmates and I started
that has grown to be one of the top recording labels in the southwest.
Education is the greatest gift I have ever received; however how I use
it will be my gift back to humanity. I'm working hard to make sure that
gift back will be a worthy one.
My name is Garrett Ray and I would like to thank the constituents who provided the funds necessary
for me to continue to focus on my scholastic journey achieving my MBA.
I am very thankful for these awards because they give me the opportunity
to focus on my studies and maintain a high-level of involvement in a
music company I helped build and currently operate. Moreover, I am lucky
enough to now have more time to build a stronger relationship and work
diligently for my mentor and professor, Professor Hickey, for whom I am
a Graduate Assistant.
I am an entrepreneur at heart. I dream of thousands of business ideas, whether they be new business ventures, innovations, or building better business models or products for corporations, I am always thinking outside of the box on what people want and how you can turn a profit from it. My biggest passion is music, therefore I decided to follow what makes me happy. Stemming from my freshman year in the Redondo dorms at UNM in '04, and now five years into the business, I am helping run (and will keep running after graduation) the successful record label Royalty Life Records L.L.C. (with Lameck Lukanga), with a few hard working associates, and even greater friends!
My name is Katie Gutierrez; I am an ambitious student and a devoted
mother. Through my daughter, Mackenzie, I have discovered the
possibilities that are available to me, learned the value of setting
goals, and driven myself to reach my full potential. A major step in
achieving this potential was realized when I was fortunate enough to
receive the Lauda Miles Madera Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship
has eased my financial burden that in turn has permitted me to focus
more time on my academic studies. Additionally, this honor has provided
me with the opportunity to meet influential and prominent entrepreneurs
in the business community. With the help of the Lauda Miles Madera
Endowed Scholarship, I plan on graduating in the fall of 2010 from
Anderson School of Management with a Bachelor's Degree in Business
Administration with a concentration in Accounting. Subsequent to
graduation I intend to work as a Certified Public Accountant or
continue my education toward a Master of Business Administration degree.

Students are eligible for scholarships of up to $2,500 for studying in Canada or Mexico during the academic year, which may be supplemented from other sources such as the UNM Regents scholarships for studying abroad. Students may also participate in internships during their studies.
