Anderson Emergency Scholarship Program

Emergency scholarships are available for Anderson undergraduate students in need. They help students avoid an interruption in their college studies due to an immediate unforeseen emergency. These scholarships are available to any degree-seeking BBA student who can demonstrate critical financial need for the current semester. Selected undergraduate students will be awarded up to $500.

Common situations leading to a student’s need for an emergency scholarship:

  • Health emergency
  • Unexpected loss of income
  • Major accident
  • Death in the family or family emergency
  • Back-due rent and risk of eviction or homelessness
  • Natural disaster

The emergency scholarship is available in extreme circumstances, and students will be expected to meet stringent criteria to qualify. Students applying must provide adequate documentation of the crisis leading to their need for emergency funds.

Emergency scholarships can cover:

  • Safety needs (changing of locks, temporary housing changes)
  • Replacement of belongings, including textbooks, due to fire, theft or natural disaster
  • Medical or dental bills (cannot cover outstanding balances; you must first apply for financial assistance through the hospital system)
  • Essential utilities
  • Food/groceries
  • Personal auto or travel (when needed for classes and/or internship) requirements
  • Childcare
  • Other emergency or unforeseen circumstances

Emergency scholarships CANNOT cover:

  • Legal fines or expenses
  • Parking tickets or fines
  • Health insurance
  • Study abroad costs
  • Sorority and fraternity dues
  • Tax bills
  • Credit card bills
  • Nonessential utilities

Completed applications must include:

  • One page personal statement expressing the situation that created the emergency and how this scholarship will support your educational goals. Please note: this scholarship will first be applied to any balance on your Bursar’s account.
  • Supporting documentation that will assist the committee in making a decision.
  • Current unofficial transcript showing you have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher or that you are a first semester student at UNM and you are pursuing a BBA from the Anderson School of Management.
  • Completed application form

Application Cycle

  • Scholarships are available from October 1-10 and November 1-10  of the Fall 2023.
  • Applications must be received by October 10 or November 10 to qualify for consideration that month.

Scholarship Process

  • Submit completed application (using the form, below).
  • Once application is verified as complete, Anderson will reach out to you to confirm that your application is in review with the application committee.
  • If awarded:
    • You will be notified via your UNM email and award will be added to your UNM Bursar account within about four weeks.
    • You will be required to submit a thank-you letter to the Anderson School, briefly stating the impact of the scholarship.

Please note: To continue providing resources for as many students as possible, if you are awarded the scholarship, you are not eligible to apply for another Anderson emergency scholarship during the same academic year.
