Carlos Perea

Lessons Learned from a Serial Entrepreneur on Clean Technologies

September 7, 2012

ALBUQUERQUE - On Thursday, September 13, 6:30 p.m., the UNM Anderson School presents Carlos Perea as part of the McKinnon Distinguished CEO Lecture Series. Mr. Perea is the former CEO and now Chairman of MIOX Corporation, a technology company that is creating value by focusing to solve one of the world's most pressing issues: the need for affordable, safe, and healthy water. His lecture, Lessons Learned from a Serial Entrepreneur on Clean Technologies, will look at the unique product and funding issues of clean tech ventures, the unusual adoption risks they face compared with other technology markets, and the lessons learned in trying to change the market from industries with decades-long fixed practices.

The presentation in UNM's Centennial Engineering Center Auditorium is free to the public, but reservations are required. To reserve a space go to www.mgt.unm.edu/events/ceo or contact Sara Lucero at 505-277-6413. Limited parking, first-come, first-served, is available in the “B” lot at the northwest corner of Central and University as well as in the two parking garages on the UNM Campus located at Yale and Lomas and Cornell and Central. Please note this lecture is not at the Anderson School, but is in the Centennial Engineering Center on Redondo Drive on the UNM Campus.

Carlos earned his B.S. Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of New Mexico and his MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Before joining MIOX, he was the founding and managing partner of Entrada Ventures, a special acquisition fund. He also served as the President of Qynergy Corporation, an alternative energy company, CFO of Novalux, a semi conductor laser company, and held many roles at Intel including Manufacturing Manager where he was responsible for a significant portion of the company's water processing. The McKinnon Distinguished CEO Lecture Series was created in 2010 by Anderson alum Sonnet McKinnon and her husband D. Ian McKinnon as a strong expression of their commitment to UNM and the Anderson School.

The endowed CEO Lecture Series will be held once or twice a year and will provide a glimpse into the minds of successful entrepreneurs and business leaders. These distinguished lecturers will articulate lessons learned and provide insight into our complex business world. Students, alumni and the business community will benefit from discussions ranging from business ethics to practical applications of academic theory. Lectures are free and open to the public.
