Dean's Message: October 2017
October 24, 2017 - Leslie Venzuela
During this month of October, we are well into the fall semester. Fall break is over and midterms are looming...
Our Boerigter Business Breakfast Program will welcome Jim Kunz, President and Co-Owner of Mega Corp Inc. In his talk Mr. Kunz will talk about his relatively obscure business here in New Mexico that brings in millions of dollars selling construction and mining industry equipment around the world. I hope you’ll join us on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 7:30am at the Embassy Suites.
Thank you to everyone who nominated a deserving alum to the Hall of Fame. Next month when you read this column, I will announce the 2018 honorees. The Hall of Fame is Tuesday, March 6 at Sandia Casino. We look forward to you joining us as we celebrate this impressive group of business leaders.
Alums of the Anderson school have the opportunity to be a part of the Power of YOU campaign. When the new McKinnon Center for Management opens next summer it will house the Anderson Alumni Center for Student Services. I invite all alums to get involved! A gift of only $1,000 will place the alumni name and graduation year on the center’s wall for the lifetime of the building. There are many options to pay over a period of up to three years. This could be a great graduation gift.
Finally, it is with a heavy heart that I tell you Dr. Sul Kassicieh, Anderson’s first Distinguished Professor, passed away on Wednesday, October 18 after a battle with esophageal cancer. Sul held the Endowed Chair in Economic Development and was on leave as the chair of the Finance, International, Technology, and Entrepreneurship department. He founded the Business Plan Competition in 2005 bringing together students and business leaders. I admired Sul’s passion for wanting to move Anderson forward. He will be missed greatly.
Until next time,
Shawn Berman, Interim Dean
