Dean's Message: December 2017

December 11, 2017 - Leslie Venzuela

Acting Dean Shawn Berman We have made it to the end of 2017 and I’m proud of all we were able to accomplish this year. Our convocation is Saturday, December 16. We will award 340 BBA, 70 MBA, 35 Master of Accounting, 7 Master of Science in Information Systems and Assurance, and for the first time, 12 students will graduate with an MBA in Education Leadership degree. Congratulations to all.

This December 26 will be one year that we started construction on the new McKinnon Center for Management (MCM) and in that time the old west building was demolished and the new building came to life. We will have our first classes in the MCM in the fall of 2018. It is a beautiful building and will serve our students well for many years to come. Once open, the MCM will house the Anderson Alumni Center for Student Services. There is a one-time opportunity for our alumni to have their name and graduation year displayed outside the Center for the life of the building. The minimum cost for this special opportunity to be part of the MCM is $1,000, which can be paid over a period of three years for less than $30 a month. What a great holiday gift for any Anderson alum! We welcome entire families of Anderson graduates to place their name on the wall. For more information, contact Darrell Garcia at 505.277.6264 or

The ribbon cutting for the MCM is May 11, 2018. We invite everyone to attend and celebrate the future of UNM Anderson.
On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, we will induct four Anderson graduates into the Hall of Fame along with two young alumni members. The Hall of Fame recognizes Anderson alums who have developed successful careers after earning an Anderson degree. We will announce our latest honorees in early 2018.

I am honored to have served as interim dean over the past year. Anderson is moving forward with great momentum thanks to the new building and the hard work of our faculty and staff. It is our commitment that the Anderson School will continue to offer the best business education in New Mexico.

I wish all of you a happy holiday season and a wonderful New Year!
