Message from the Dean

Dean Craig White The past few weeks have been an exciting time at the Anderson School! We’ve seen completions with the Spring graduation and new beginnings with the ribbon cutting ceremony for the McKinnon Center for Management.

The School graduated 547 students this spring. We wish them well as they move into the next chapters of their lives. Andy Lim did an outstanding job as speaker. He told his story of coming to the United States with little in terms of money. His education at the Anderson School was instrumental to his entrepreneurial career in software development. He is still going strong in developing new businesses.

The ribbon cutting of the McKinnon Center was a milestone day as we formally move into the new building. This facility is going to be an outstanding asset. It will enable us to reach new levels of quality both in teaching and research. You can find the Albuquerque Journal’s story on the event here: https://www.abqjournal.com/1170893

The Anderson School is a very special place to thousands of alumni, faculty, and staff for a myriad of reasons. It is exciting to think about the new memories to be made in the McKinnon Center for Management, the learning to be had, and the relationships developed.

Dr. Craig White, Dean

Message from the Associate Dean

Associate Dean Shawn Berman In the April edition of This is Anderson, I mentioned the new MS in program and project management that we’re developing with the support of both national labs. The program has now been approved by the Anderson School faculty in an overwhelming vote of support (32-3). The process now moves to the university curriculum committee for approval. Thanks to Dr. Steve Walsh for all his work on this program.

Dr. Robert Luo and I are headed back to China to visit the Beijing Institute of Technology-Zhuhai (BITZH) for the last week in May. We will meet with parents and students interested in spending their senior year in Albuquerque and additionally earning a graduate degree from Anderson. We will also be attending the “Forum on the 190th anniversary of Yung Wing’s birth and education internationalization and applied talents cultivation” hosted by BITZH. I will also be attending the 2018 international conference of the International Association of Business and Society (IABS), which will be in Hong Kong. The program chair this year is Anderson’s own, Dr. Harry Van Buren.

Finally, the end of May marks the end of Dr. Dimitri Kapelianis’ service as Associate Dean for Enrollment Management. Dimitri has served in this role for the last 18 months, including serving as the sole Associate Dean during my year as Interim Dean. Thanks to Dimitri for all his hard work in the role, continuous striving to move Anderson forward, and concern for the welfare of Anderson’s students. We have used the last six months to experiment with a two associate dean model. We will continue to have two associate deans, with one focused on students and one focused on faculty, accreditation, and research. Craig and I look forward to welcoming a new colleague into the Anderson Dean’s Office next month and thank Dimitri again for all his work the past 18 months!

Dr. Shawn Berman, Associate Dean
