UNM Anderson School of Management and the Deloitte Foundation Fund Scholarships for 12 Master of Accounting Students
August 8, 2024 - Megan Borders
The UNM Anderson School of Management announces its collaboration with the Deloitte Foundation in the Deloitte Foundation Accounting Scholars Program to fund the 2024-25 DFASP scholarship recipients. This year’s 12 recipients received full tuition scholarships.
This scholarship program provides financial support to students pursuing Anderson’s one-year Master of Accounting program, helping them meet the 150-credit hour requirement for certified public accountant eligibility.
I’m so thankful to the Deloitte Foundation for their generosity and willingness to help college students succeed. Their scholarship has helped me get closer to achieving my goal of becoming a CPA by making the first steps in completing my graduate studies stress-free and seamless,” said a scholarship recipient.
To be eligible, a student must pursue an undergraduate degree in accounting from an accredited program among other eligibility criteria. Applicants must also meet the standards for admission into a Deloitte Foundation-selected AACSB accredited master’s degree program in accounting and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
“The university’s scholarship review committee saw a highly competitive pool of applicants. Each one had a high GPA and demonstrated passion to be a CPA,” said Ryan Knight, assistant professor of accounting at the Anderson School. “We’re fortunate to collaborate with the Deloitte Foundation, which helps provide our top accounting students with the opportunity to accomplish their career goals.”
The Deloitte Foundation supports programs that work in parallel with Deloitte’s* MADE (Making Accounting Diverse and Equitable), a $75 million commitment to fuel greater racial and ethnic diversity in accounting and tax and generate more opportunities and leadership pathways for the next generation of CPAs. The Foundation expects to fund $25 million in scholarships for students over several years, including students interested in pursuing a fifth-year master’s degree in accounting, master of tax or master of accounting with a concentration in audit, advisory or tax through the Deloitte Foundation Accounting Scholars Program. DFASP is a collaboration between the Foundation and nearly 25 participating colleges and universities across the U.S., including the UNM’s Anderson School of Management, in an effort to help diversify the CPA profession.
“The Deloitte Foundation is an education nonprofit that helps prepare the next generation for the future of work,” said Erin Scanlon, Deloitte Foundation president. “Now in its third year, the Deloitte Foundation Accounting Scholars Program works with nearly 25 colleges and universities across the country. We’re thrilled to be able to offer more students the opportunity to pursue a career in accounting or tax.”
