Second Annual Up-and-Comers Awards Extend Nominations

ALBUQUERQUE – New Mexico is about new energy – and the young professionals making a difference will be again be honored in this year’s Up-and-Comers Awards. Sponsored by The Anderson Schools of Management Foundation, the Up-and-Comers Awards have been designed to recognize 40 individuals from across the State who are demonstrating excellence in their professional lives and community service.

The deadline for nominations for this program has been extended to September 28. “We recognize that the national tragedy we have all experienced has left many of us with this deadline far from our minds,” said Shawn Shepherd, Chief Development Officer for The Schools, “but we also want to make certain that this program continues to thrive and recognize the best of the best in the state.”

Individuals may be nominated who are under 40 years old and who are making a mark in New Mexico through their work and service to the community. Categories for recognition will include: Agriculture; Architecture and Planning; Communications; Economic Development; Education; Engineering; Entrepreneurship; Finance; Fine Arts; Government; International Business; Law; Manufacturing; Medicine; Non-profit Management; Retail; Science and Technology; Small Business; Sports and Entertainment; and Travel and Tourism.

The deadline for receiving nominations is Friday, September 28. To nominate an outstanding young leader, simply send their name, title, affiliation and address to The Anderson Schools of Management Development Office at UNM. Nominations are also accepted by telephone at 505-277-6264 and by email at mchale@mgt.unm.edu.

Nominees will receive application packets that will be due by Wednesday, October 3. A selection committee of former recipients and Anderson Schools Board members will determine this year’s honorees.

The selected individuals will be honored at a luncheon on Tuesday, November 13 at the Crowne Plaza Pyramid Hotel in Albuquerque. The featured speaker for the luncheon will be Steve Wells, the President and CEO of Los Alamos National Bank, the first bank in the nation to be recognized with a Baldridge Quality Award and the first New Mexico business to receive the national-level recognition.

The Up-and-Comers Awards program is being sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank, Andersen, Charter Cos., KRQE, KUNM, CenturyPlus and Quality New Mexico.
