ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP WITH JOEL PETERSON
TUESDAY, JUNE 21, 7:30 A.M.
(Albuquerque, NM) All businesses face inflection points - periods where the risk of failure is heightened. As part of the Anderson School Business to Business Breakfast Series at the Anderson School of Management, Joel Peterson will discuss entrepreneurial leadership - how it is especially required during critical times, and how entrepreneurs create and protect value during these moments.
Mr. Peterson is the Founder and CEO of Peterson Partners, Chairman of the Board at JetBlue Airways, and a Business Professor at Stanford University where his current course focus is on effective management and leadership of growing businesses.
Joel achieved success at an early age, starting with being named valedictorian at his undergraduate alma mater, Brigham Young University. Two years after getting his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1973, he was named treasurer of Trammell Crow Co., one of the world's largest commercial real estate developers. A year later he became CFO and later managing partner. He left Crow in 1991 and founded Peterson Partners of Salt Lake City where he invests in growing enterprises. One was JetBlue where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board.
At Stanford he urges his students to think past the classroom about important decisions they will make in the business world and in their personal lives. In his "Last Lecture" he told students that success in business isn't worth anything unless you are happy. He stressed the "continuum of well-being," which he described as finding happiness in your life by discovering who you are, finding someone to love, and enjoying the work you do.
Peterson is the Director at Stanford's Center for Leadership Development and Research, is a member of the Dean's Advisory Group, and was selected by the students to receive the Distinguished Teacher Award in 2005.
The public is invited to attend Joel Peterson's presentation on Tuesday, June 21 at 7:30 a.m. in the Paul R. Jackson Student Center, located just west of the Anderson School.
