Managers need finance to find funding sources for their firms, to identify and manage risk, and to decide whether to make capital expenditures or produce new products. Individuals use the principles of finance to set long term financial goals and to make personal investment decisions. Areas of study in the field of finance include financial management, banking, planning, investments, insurance, money flow, real estate and financial services.

  • Bio: Dr. Vora received his Ph.D. in Finance from Indiana University in 1982 and joined the faculty at UNM in 1989. Professor Vora has published in a number of Finance, Economics and Management journals, such Journal of Journal of Finance, Management Science, Journal of Business Research, Yale Journal on Regulation, Journal of Risk and Insurance, Managerial and Decision Economics, Journal of Derivatives, Creative Industries Journal and Modern Economy, among other publications.
    He teaches a number of finance courses, including Applications in Business Finance and Advanced Problems in Finance.

  • Bio: Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Florida in 1999 and joined the faculty at UNM in 2007. Professor Chen has published in a number of Finance and management journals, such as Journal of Finance, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, among other publications.
    Professor Chen is in the editorial board of Asia Pacific Management Review and Journal of Financial Studies. Professor Chen is also an "Ad Hoc Referee" for a number of journals such as Applied Economics, China Economic Review European, Journal of Finance, among other finance journals.
    He teaches a number of finance courses, including International Financial Management, Equity and Capital Markets, Derivatives, and Seminar in Futures and Options.

  • Bio: Dr. Gouvea received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1988 and joined the faculty at UNM in 1988.
    Professor Gouvea teaches a number of international management courses, including International Management, Management in Latin America, International Entrepreneurship, and Green Economics.
    Professor Gouvea is the founder and Chair of a number of conferences such as Fostering Indigenous Business and Entrepreneurship in the Americas (FIBEA), Sustainability & Disability (SUDI), Legal Implications of the Green Economy (LIEGE), and co-founded and co-chaired the Water, Innovation, Technology and Sustainability Conferences (WITS).
    He has published over 80 articles in a number of management, economic,  and Latin American Studies Journals, such as the Modern Economy, Journal of Business Ethics, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Thunderbird International Business Review, International Journal of Environmental Studies, Defense & Security Analysis, International Journal of Social Ecology and Sustainable Development, Journal of Latin American Studies, Latin American Research Review, Revista Brasileira de Economia, Estudos Economicos,Revista de Economia Politica, Estudios de Economia, and El Trimestre Economico.
