Jim Parker Remembered

June 4, 2019 - Interim Dean Shawn Berman

Jim ParkerIt is with great sadness that I pass along the news of Jim Parker’s passing. Jim and his wife Linda founded the Parker Center for Family Business and joined with the Anderson School in 2015.

Jim was an attorney with Modrall Sperling Law Firm with more than 40 years of experience in federal taxation, estate planning, employee benefits, and business law.

Jim had a passion for helping family businesses work through tough problems that are unique to doing business with family members. He was interested in the issue of succession, specifically how families can pass family-owned businesses peaceably from one generation to the next.

I will remember Jim as one of the kindest people I was fortunate enough to know.

Jim had a quick wit and a sharp cowboy hat. I will miss seeing his cowboy hat sitting in the middle of the table the next time I meet with the Parker Center leadership in the dean’s conference room.

Jim’s service is Saturday, June 8 at 9:30am at the First Presbyterian Church on 215 Locust Street NE.

The entire family business community suffered the loss of a great champion with Jim’s passing. Please keep Linda and their family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
