Since 2016, Thornburg has funded Anderson’s subscription to industry-leading financial analysis tools. All Anderson students and faculty have access to FactSet to monitor global markets, perform in-depth analysis and develop investment strategies. This exposure helps lay the groundwork for successful finance careers in an industry where everyday tools favored by Wall Street professionals drive job performance.

"Partnering with UNM Anderson just made sense," said Michael Corrao, director of global communications for Thornburg. "As a leading investment firm in New Mexico, we hire many Anderson finance graduates. Plus, our desire to leave a lasting impact on the finance industry underscores the importance of helping develop the next generation of financial professionals."

"As the director of the student-run $5 million Regents' Portfolio, we appreciate everything Thornburg has done for our students," said Reilly White, Anderson associate dean. "FactSet is a crucial resource that allows our students access to global markets in ways that weren't previously possible."

In 2019, Thornburg took its support to the next level by creating the Thornburg Excellence in Finance student scholarship. This scholarship helps Anderson finance students continue their goal of graduating during financially challenging times. Thanks to Thornburg’s generosity, a dozen students have received scholarship support since its inception.

Founded in 1982 by Garrett Thornburg, Thornburg has grown into a global investment firm with clients that include financial advisors and sophisticated institutions. Thornburg is headquartered in Santa Fe and has international offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The team at Thornburg identifies investment strategies for their clients’ unique needs. Thornburg measures success from the client’s point of view. More so, as active managers, they use an "unsiloed" approach that allows for open and continuous communication and collaboration across market segments. This tactic inspires out-of-the-box solutions and is strengthened by their company’s location, away from other U.S. financial hubs.

Thornburg is an employee-owned company that strives for excellence in every strategy and decision it makes. It invests in its employees and takes its stewardship of its community and environment seriously. Its corporate social responsibility program is built around five guiding principles: sustainable investing, diversity, equity and inclusion, community and philanthropy, governance, and environment and climate action.

One of their most storied accomplishments was opening their LEED Gold-certified campus in 2009. They lead by example in the community, showing other organizations what is possible. They support students at all levels of education, from pre-K through 12th grade, with classroom grants funding much-needed supplies and programs. Their award-winning "Dollars for Doers" initiative supports their employees’ volunteerism and board membership. Additionally, every employee receives two paid days a year to volunteer with a nonprofit organization that fulfills them personally.
